Obituary for Paul Huska

Paul Huska
Paul Huska, long-time resident and active community member of Brandon, MB passed away peacefully, in his sleep, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. Born on the family farm in the Municipality of Grandview on July 12, 1941, Paul grew to enjoy participating in various athletic endeavours and became an avid sports fan. He applied his enthusiasm and diligence to his work as an accountant with ESB Canada (Ray-O-Vac) and from 1979 until his retirement from Behlen Industries, in 1999. Paul was a friend to many; he had a ready smile, a joke and a sincere handshake for everyone he met, whether on the golf course, the bowling lanes, the curling rink, the ball diamond, or as he came and went about the community. Paul embraced life with a joy and passion that is inspiring and uplifting – as one young friend commented: “he had the rare capability to turn a bad day into a good day.” Simply put, this was his approach to life. Paul enjoyed his many friendships – sharing a laugh, a drink, playing a game, or lending a hand. His willingness to help led him to devote countless hours to the service of his community. A member of the Lions Club, he was often to be seen selling potatoes and pumpkins in the fall, mulch and fertilizer in the spring, working tirelessly to help raise funds that would benefit others. Paul contributed his time and energy to support the CNIB and was instrumental in ensuring that Brandon’s Lion’s Manor became a reality. He spoke out to encourage his fellow club members to support the causes close to his heart, causes that could change lives for the better. Paul’s membership in the Canadian Ukrainian Men’s Club at St. Mary’s Ukrainian Church was not only yet another opportunity for Paul to serve but also an expression of his abiding faith and of his lifelong devotion to the Church. Paul’s great passion was family. His dedication to his family has been, always, so immeasurable, so intense that mere words seem inadequate …. Paul’s love for his mum, his brothers and sisters, his daughters and grandchildren, god children, his aunts and uncles extended to his many cousins, nieces and nephews. He mourned the loss of his mother Helen Huska, in-laws John and Pearl Clunie, eldest brother Peter Huska and brother-in-law Bruce Clunie. Paul so enjoyed the little ones – his grandchildren, his many nieces, nephews and God children. He be-friended them through the teenage years and has been a constant source of love and support as the family children have made their way to adulthood. If he has had a great love for family, Paul’s heart beat has been for his wife, Edna (Red). For 45 years, they have been best friends, shared all the joys and sorrows that life has brought them and been loving and committed as husband and wife. She is so grateful to family, friends, the Wheat City Lions Club and the CMUC for their outpouring of love and support at Paul’s passing. The many cards, food, flowers and expressions of sorrow speak volumes of how he will be remembered. Paul is also survived by his daughters, Shannon (Rob) Sidak and Shelley (Jim) VanBrocklin; grandchildren Taylor and Travis Sidak; Aaron, Carissa and Noah VanBrocklin; his loving siblings, Anne (Murray) Flynn, Marla (Bob) Borsa, Edna (Henry) Senko and Ray (Lourene) Huska. His loss is keenly felt by his in-laws and their families, Phyllis Clunie and Heather and Mo Karrouze. Prayers were offered at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Church on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 with Rev. Fr. Bohdan Lukie as Celebrant. A private family interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Paul may be made to the Wheat City Lions Club, 35 Victoria Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 1Y7 or to the Counselling Centre for Hope, Healing & Encouragement, 335 9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 4A8. As a faithful, warm and kind hearted neighbour, friend, family member and husband, Paul’s boundless love of life, his amazing vitality and the genuine joy he found in serving others are an example for all of us who are left to mourn. His life has truly been, a life so well lived. Paul, you are in our hearts, for always.
