Obituary for Fred Fjeldsted

On Thursday, October 20, 2016, Frederick David Fjeldsted, of Brandon, formerly of Dauphin, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Frederick was born December 19, 1939, in Winnipeg, to Dr. Fridrik and Mrs. Jonina Fjeldsted. His family moved between Birtle and Winnipeg, Manitoba until 1942 when they settled in Brandon, Manitoba. Frederick enjoyed a close relationship growing up with his younger brother, Don. He completed his schooling and teacher training in Brandon. Fred received his Bachelor of Science Degree and Bachelor of Education Degree from the University of Manitoba. Frederick taught high school for 31 years where he also coached many high school teams and clubs including football, badminton and basketball. Fred was a good member of both Fenwick Lodge 158 and Scottish Rite Masons, Valley of Brandon. In 1971, he joined the Vermillion Lodge in Dauphin, Manitoba, moving through the chairs eventually becoming Master of Vermillion Lodge #68. He received his 32nd degree on April 7, 1988. On January 16, 2003, Bro. Frederick affiliated with Fenwick Lodge #158 in Brandon, and has been a faithful member since. He was also a valuable member of Scottish Rite Masons, in the Valley of Brandon, where he has filled all of the chairs over the years. Frederick was also a member of the Dauphin Shrine Club and more recently a member of the Brandon Shrine Club. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of Canada and was a Queen Scout. Frederick had a lifelong interest in curling, and was an avid Brandon Wheat Kings fan being a season ticket holder with his wife, Cecilia. Fred also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, boating, and travelling with his wife, children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed spending time at the cottage at Clear Lake. He was a voracious reader and held an interest in politics and history. Frederick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Cecilia; daughter Erika and grandsons, Timber, River and Leaf; son Freddie (Brenna) and grandchildren, Lucas, Owen, Polly, and Frankie; brother Don (Lois) and nephew Erik. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Fridrik and Mrs. Jonina Fjeldsted. The Celebration of Frederick's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Lydia Glawson officiated. Urn bearers were grandsons Timber, River, Leaf, Lucas and Owen. Donations in memory of Frederick may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, #3 - 2430 Victoria Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7B 0M5.
