Obituary for John Leo Allen

John Leo Allen
On Friday, January 15, 2016, John Leo Allen, of Brandon, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on December 5, 1949, John lived in Fargo, Oklahoma until age 5 years, when his family moved to Altamont, Kansas. They operated a successful dairy farm, which he helped with everything. Graduating with honours, from Labette high school, and as class valedictorian, John then attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas. Moving to Canada in 1970, John lived in numerous places including Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Regina, Selkirk, and Brandon. He was very successful in long-term sales, working for McKenzie Seeds as well as Foss North America. When not singing in the choir, or playing trumpet in a band, John was an avid golfer, took great pride in his gardening skills, and enjoyed travel. He watched all sports, and his favourite team was the Kansas City Royals. Remaining to cherish John's memory are his son Christopher Allen; daughter Annie Allen (Tim North); granddaughters Lily and Lexi Allen-North (his pride and joy); father John Allen Sr; sister Janice Billups; nieces Nicole (Banner) Stovall, Jennifer Krusemark, Megan Billups; numerous great nieces and nephews and life-long friend Kirk Wyckoff. He was predeceased by his mother Violet Allen. A private graveside service will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of choice.
