Cloisonne refers to the finish of an urn rather than the material from which it is made. A metal urn, usually made of copper or bronze is, will have copper wire or a wire mesh design attached to the urn. These shapes then have enamel of all colours applied to the surface, which is then fired to become a bright and colorful work of art. This French technique reached its perfection as a result of the efforts of Chinese artisans. This ranks as one of China's major contributions to the world's fine arts.
