Obituary for Ethel Mary Donogh (Gratton)

Ethel Mary Donogh (Gratton)
Ethel Mary Donogh was born on May 18, 1916 in the family home at 844 4th Street in Brandon, and later moved to 1525 Louise Avenue. She was the second oldest of 7 children born to Herbert and Florence Mary Gratton. Ethel married Allan Johnson Donogh, a mechanic at Butcher & Sons on June 27, 1940. They lived in Brandon for 5 years and for a short time they farmed near the Kirkham's Bridge area. Son Glen was born on October 5, 1947 and later that year they purchased a farm in the Cornwallis District. In 1952 they purchased a farm in the Moorepark, Justice Area. Allan passed away on Dec 12, 1960 and Ethel moved to town in the fall of 1961. She later purchased a house in Brandon on 19th Street in 1963, then the current house on 22nd Street in 1968. Ethel was employed at the Brandon General Hospital in early years and when she moved back to Brandon she worked at Fairview Home for 14 years before retiring early to take care of her mother. She took great pride in her vegetable garden and flowers. Ethel drove her car until she gave up her license at 100 years old. She was always active in church and family events. She had failing health issues in the spring of 2018 and moved to Hillcrest Place in April of that year. Ethel passed this world in the late evening of Wednesday, March 6, 2019. She will be remembered by her son Glen, family and all that knew her. A Celebration of Ethel's Life was held on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Memories Chapel. Pastor Ron Pierce officiated. Donations in memory of Ethel may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, Unit 4B - 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 1K2.
