Obituary for Dorothy Bernice Barbour

Dorothy Bernice Barbour
On Tuesday, February 12, 2019, Dorothy Bernice Barbour, age 86 years, passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, Alberta. Dorothy was born July 16, 1932 in Leader, Saskatchewan where she completed her grade 12 education. During her youth, she loved to play soft ball. Blessed with musical talent, Dorothy learned to play piano by ear, which led to her involvement in music at her church. She worked at her Dad's Meteor, Lincoln, Mercury Car Lot, where she would pick up new cars from the train and drive them to the lot to be sold. Over the years, Dorothy worked in several banks and credit unions, and eventually for Shell Canada in Accounts Payable, where she remained until retirement. With a love for all children, her childhood dream was to work in an orphanage in Japan. She supported many children through World Vision since 1970. An avid fan of Major League Baseball, Dorothy's favourite team was the Toronto Blue Jays. Extending her help wherever possible, Dorothy was a great friend and neighbour, not to mention World's Greatest Gramma. Remaining to cherish Dorothy's memory are sons, Doug (Marie), Brent, Stan; daughters, Anne (Bob) Reiniger, Brenda (Brent) Buchanan, Marlene (Kelvin) Babuik; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and grandson Sean. The Ceremony to Celebrate Dorothy's Life will be held at the Falconridge Family Church, 155 Falconridge Crescent NE on Monday, February 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Scott Hill officiating. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Falconridge Family Church, 155 Falconridge Crescent NE, Calgary, AB T3J 1Z9.
