Obituary for Ruth Eileen Shaver

Ruth Eileen Shaver
Ruth Eileen Shaver (Schwartz), born December 3, 1934, passed away in Brandon with family at her side on Thursday, December 13, 2018, at the age of 84.
Ruth is survived by her beloved husband Allen; children Terry (Mary), Dan, Tim (Laura), Nancy Lytle (Robin), Dave (Nicole), Chris Crellin (Colin); daughter-in-law Suzette Shaver; 19 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her dear sister Elsie Donetz, as well as sisters-in-law Rae Shaver and Shirley Swane. She was predeceased by her two eldest children Norine and Darrel; siblings Jack, Walter and Lydia and by her parents.
Ruth and Allen met while volunteering to fill sandbags during the great flood of Winnipeg in the spring of 1950. They were married in June 1952 and celebrated 66 years of marriage this year. The way they met helping others was typical of their life together.
She was a wonderful wife and mother to her eight children. She provided a home filled with love that was open to all. Ruth lived a life of service, always looking for opportunities to feed, clothe, or just love those around her who needed a lift. Our mother often included us in her acts of kindness and inspired us to do the same. A dear friend recently wrote : “whenever I think of people that I personally know that are truly Christlike, you are always the first person that comes to mind. I am grateful for your example" Our mother strived her whole life to be just that and in her humble heart, there could be no greater compliment given.
Ruth was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ruth & Allen were sealed as eternal companions in the Idaho Falls Temple and from there strived to build an eternal family. They served together in several missions including four years in the Regina Temple, always going where and when asked.
In lieu of flowers, her wish would be for all to do a kind deed or act of service for someone in need.
A memorial service will be held in Winnipeg at a time when her family are able to gather.
