Obituary for Bruce Nehring

Bruce Nehring
Wilfred Bruce Nehring, age 77, passed away with family by his side on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at the Tri-Lake Health Centre, Killarney, Manitoba.

Bruce was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on October 22, 1940 to Leopold and Wilhelmine “Minnie” (Schoenrath) Nehring. They lived on a farm 2 miles out of Springside. The kids attended a country school with 20-30 pupils two miles away, often getting rides in a horse and buggy or sleigh. They moved shortly after to Swan River, Manitoba. After high school, Bruce met Merrilyn Gurr in Brandon and they were married on September 14, 1963. Dad built them a house and worked a year before they headed off to Bible School in Saskatoon for ministry training.

They began the fifty-year whirlwind of pouring out their lives together, loving people, raising up leaders, and sharing the good news of forgiveness and new life in Jesus Christ. Bruce pastored in Manitoba, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and the Northwest Territories. He built 3 churches and 6 houses with countless other additions and renovations. Home was always filled with love, books, music, and life, reaching out to friends in every community. Bruce befriended his world one coffee cup at a time. He enjoyed hockey, nature, painting, fishing, videotaping, and leading hymn sings in the seniors’ homes.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Merrilyn, four children, Sheri (Brad), Evan (Colleen), Heather (Alan), and Stephanie (Vaughan), brother Irving Nehring, twin sister Fran Jones, grandchildren and great grandchildren who carry his legacy of faith and family. He was predeceased by his parents and brother-in-law Len Jones.

The Celebration of Bruce's Life was held at Calvary Temple, Brandon on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 with Pastor Dennis Schram and Pastor Gary Jennings officiating. Bruce was laid to rest at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bruce may be made to Manhattan Beach Retreat Centre, PO Box 62, Ninette, Manitoba, R0K 1R0.

From Bruce: “One of these years…I will move over to glory to be with Jesus forever and ever. Please join me up there some day.”
