Obituary for Garnet George MacDonald

Garnet George  MacDonald
On Monday, July 16, 2018, Garnet George MacDonald passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Born May 3, 1935 in Grandview, MB. Garnet was raised and schooled in Flin Flon, Manitoba. Following high school graduation, Garnet trained as a Journeyman Machinist, working in the field for 17 years. He married Jeanine Brew on March 30, 1957 in Flin Flon. In 1966, Garnet and his family relocated to Brandon. In 1969, wanting to further his education, Garnet trained as a vocational teacher in Winnipeg and later received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Brandon University. Upon returning to Brandon in 1970, he taught drafting in the Brandon School Division at Crocus Plains High School for 20 years until his retirement in 1990. A familiar face in the community, Garnet was a member of Calvary Temple and later Bethel Christian Assembly. He was a member of the Manitoba Teachers' Society, and RTAM (Retired Teachers' Association of Manitoba). Garnet loved traveling and spent the last 27 years RV’ing in Florida for the winters making many friends. He was passionate about music, and faithfully played his banjo while volunteering at Fairview Home for seniors. He also enjoyed carving and wood work, drafting, machinist work and mechanical work. Garnet will be lovingly remembered by his wife Jeanine; son Duncan (Tricia) and her children Justin and Nikki; son Darrell (Betty Anne) and their children Katie and Dylan; son Brent and sister Maxine Dilay (Roy Bilec) and her children Lisa Glutek (Jason) child Matthew ; Leanne Kyle (Brent) and children Ella and Luke ; and Dustin Dilay. He was predeceased by his parents Malcolm and Annie, and brother Keith. The Celebration of Garnet's Life took place at Bethel Christian Assembly in the Fellowship Hall, 440 Richmond Avenue, on Friday, July 27, 2018.
