Obituary for Pandy Prince

Pandy Prince
Pandora “Pandy” Adele Prince (nee Schermann) of Brandon, MB (formerly of Thompson, MB) passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 24, 2018 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre at the age of 63 years. Pandy was born in Biggar, SK on March 5, 1955 to Bernie and Yvonne Schermann. The eldest of six girls, she spent her early life surrounded by the fruit orchards of Rutland, BC. Her middle school years were spent in Alsask, SK and in 1970 she and her family moved to Spy Hill, SK where she continued her high school education and where in 1974 she met her future husband and life-long love Douglas Prince. The couple were married in Spy Hill and moved to Thompson, MB to start their lives together. It was there that they soon welcomed the birth of their son Michael and where they lived for the next 30 years. Pandy worked in a nursery school and daycare in Thompson, a job for which she was perfectly suited with her nurturing nature. Many years later, Pandy would still remember the parents of the children who’d attended and ask them about how their kids were doing! Many of Pandy’s favourite moments were spent at her cottage on Setting Lake, where she grew amazing tomatoes, met some of her best friends, and helped organize the annual “regatta”. During this time she also began work with the Brandon University out of Thompson. She spoke of her work with BUNTEP as deeply rewarding and meaningful, and of her former students with a warm fondness. She was especially connected to her friends “The University Ladies” with whom she continued to meet long after her time working with BUNTEP had ended. As the owner of a warm heart and generous smile, it is no surprise that Pandy loved people and people loved being around her. She helped bring people together by organizing get-togethers, BBQ’s and holiday celebrations – anything that built a stronger community and connected those around her. She and her sisters enjoyed many annual “sister’s trips”; a testament to their closeness throughout their lives. She’d try just about any activity so long as it was a chance to be with others! She tried her hand at building willow furniture, card making, and stained glass. Pandy also loved being outside in the sun. She loved flowers and was an avid and successful gardener. She was fond of birds, especially those that came to visit her bird feeder. Pandy’s beautiful smile and generous nature brought warmth and kindness to so many lives - from those closest to her to those she had only just met. She always thought of others before herself and her open, caring, and non-judgmental nature will be remembered by all those whose lives she touched. Her loss is shared by numerous family and friends including her husband of 43 years Doug, her son Michael (Angela), sisters Tannis (Walter), Shelia (Marc), Dorcie (Perry), and Keoma (Bill). Pandy was predeceased by her parents Bernie and Yvonne, and her sister Barb. A Service to Celebrate Pandy’s Life was held at Memories Chapel on Friday, June 29, 2018. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Pandy may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Ave. E, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3. The Family would like to thank the caregivers at the Brandon Hospital for their kindness and extraordinary care over the course of Pandy’s illness. Your consideration and compassion made a world of difference.
