Obituary for Ian Barkley Murdoch

Ian Barkley  Murdoch
On Thursday, June 21, 2018, Ian Barkley Murdoch, passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He was born August 4, 1937 at Neepawa, Manitoba to Alexander and Lyla (nee Barkley) Murdoch. The Murdoch's were part of the Cordova Community located 15 miles from Neepawa. Ian attended Lorndale School, then high school in Neepawa. At the age of 17 Ian joined the Commerce Bank (later CIBC). During his career of nearly 40 years, Ian lived in many communities in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario including Neepawa, Dauphin, Virden, Winnipeg, Carman (twice), Rainy River, Fort Frances and Sioux Lookout, ON . In recognition of his dedication as an employee, Ian was the recipient of many awards during his career at CIBC. Always one to give back to the community, Ian belonged to numerous clubs and organizations including the Kinsmen Club, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, and the Mason's. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in more than one community, and President of two Minor Hockey Associations. While in Carman, he was a Board Member of the Carman Golf Club, actively involved with the Recreation Commission, and was one of the founders of the Flood Diversion Committee. Ian loved hockey and was a loyal fan of the Brandon Wheat Kings. When not at work, Ian also enjoyed golfing and curling. Family was especially important to Ian and he always provided support and actively followed the interests of his 3 sons. Ian will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shirley; sons Neil (Cindy Glowach), Kevin (Andrea) and Dana (Terra); grandchildren Zachary and Kelsey, their mother Jill, Alivia, Ian, Julia and Ryan; sister Jean Graham of Gladstone, MB; brother Alan Murdoch of Ames, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Bruce and niece Shannon of Prince George, BC. The family would like to thank Dr. Plewes, Dr. Moller and the staff at Brandon Regional Health Centre, CancerCare and Palliative Care for the excellent care Ian received. A Come and Go Reception to Honour Ian's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Friday, July 27, 2018 between 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with a time of reflection at 2:30 p.m. A private interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. Donations in memory of Ian may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or to a charity of choice.
