On Monday, May 14, 2018, John Edwin Braun, of Brandon, formerly farmed at Alexander, Manitoba, passed away at Dinsdale Personal Care Home. John was born March 11, 1930 at Brotherfield in the district of Waldheim, Saskatchewan to Heinrich Johann (Henry John) Braun and Tina (nee Kroeker) Braun. John's parents farmed in the Waldheim area. He was the eldest of three children; Leonard was born in 1932 and Alice in 1934. John attended Brotherfield Public School for grades 1 to 9, and Waldheim High School for grades 10 to 12. In 1952, John attended Bethany Bible School in Saskatchewan for one year. Following Bible School, John farmed with his father for a number of years at Alexander, Manitoba and did seasonal stuccoing work in Winnipeg. On October 1, 1955, John married Gladys Hiebert. They farmed in the Alexander area until July of 1995, when they retired and moved into Brandon. John was a faithful and active member of Mennonite Brethren churches over the years in Waldheim, Saskatchewan, and Griswold, Alexander and Brandon, Manitoba. He served as trustee, tenor choir member, Boys Brigade leader, on food committees, and singing with a hospital visitation team. John is loved and missed by his wife Gladys; their four children, Marlene (Paul) Nemetchek, Gerald (Diane) Braun, Loren (Elaine) Braun, Nancy (Carey) Wegner; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gladys and the family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the caring former neighbours on Hemlock Crescent who provided a watchful eye and helping hand when the family couldn't be there. We also want to thank the staff of Dinsdale Personal Care Home for their compassionate care and support of John and the family through his time there. The Memorial Service took place at Richmond Park Mennonite Brethren Church, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018. Pastor Gerry Harms officiated. John was laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Alexander Cemetery. Donations in memory of John may be made to The Gideons International, 501 Imperial Road North, Guelph, ON N1H 6T9.
