Obituary for Sara Buizer

Sara Buizer
It is with deep sorrow our family announces the passing of Sara Buizer on March 11th 2018, at the age of 98, peacefully, and with her family by her side. Born a twin in Hoek, The Netherlands in 1919 Sara was one of six children. Early in her life the family moved to Kruiningen, Zeeland where she completed her schooling and began her work life. From age 16 – 24 she worked as a housekeeper earning 5 guilders per week. She was always one who wanted to go home in the evening as she loved her home life. Sara participated in the church girls club and attended church twice every Sunday. War broke out in 1940. The Netherlands was occupied and food had to be purchased with food stamps. Her mother passed away suddenly in 1942. War at her doorstep, the poor economic conditions and the family circumstances lead to a frugal lifestyle. Following the death of her mother, Sara went home to look after her father and he passed away in 1946. She married John in 1947. Sara began her married life in the same area with their first son, Keith, arriving in 1950. A devastating flood occurred in this area of Holland in 1953, and everything was lost. Sara and John began rebuilding their lives, but the pull of Canada tugged at John’s heart, as his brother Bastiaan had already headed there. In 1956, the family immigrated to Canada. A second son Adriaan (Archie) had also arrived in 1954. She remained in the Brandon area, with John obtaining employment at the Brandon Research station. She devoted her life to caring for her family and loved her Canadian home and lifestyle. The aging process lead to a time in Riverheights Terrace, where she enjoyed the companionship of other residents and the many activities. Due to failing health she moved to Fairview in November of 2016. She readily adapted to her new environment and enjoyed her surroundings, always asking her son to take her to church on Sunday. She was a devout member of the First Christian Reformed Church with her last attendance taking place on February 18th. Predeceased by her husband, John in 1994 and her son Archie in 2007, she is survived by her son Keith (Cindy) and grandsons Jay and Jesse. She was put to rest at a private graveside ceremony on March 15th. Active pallbearers were Keith, Jay and Jesse Buizer, Dion and Jack Wiseman and Brent Campbell. The graveside service at Rosewood Memorial Gardens was followed by a celebration of Sara's life later that day at Memories Chapel, Thursday, March 15, 2018. The Celebration of Life was officiated by Rev. Doug VandeKamp. She will be missed by her family, her sister in law Maps, her nieces Caroline, Angela, Alice and Letta. Special thanks go out to our friends for support during this time. Special thanks also go out to the de Hoog, Louwerse, van’t Leven, Dieleman and Buizer families for past visits and sharing memories. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Sara can be made to the Brandon Regional Heath Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3, or Charity of choice.
