Obituary for William Joseph Mummery

William Joseph  Mummery
William Joseph (Bill) Mummery passed away after a brief illness at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon, Manitoba on Sunday, March 4th, 2018 at the age of 90 years. Bill is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen (nee MacKenzie), his father Harry, his mother Lena, his sisters Donna, Grace, Helen, and Bev and his brothers Harry, Charles, Gord and Jim. Bill is survived by his sisters Pat and Enid of Toronto, Ontario. Bill is lovingly remembered by his son, Kerry and daughter-in-law Christine of Edmonton, Alberta and his two granddaughters; Jessica Francis (nee Mummery) of Canberra, Australia and Megan Mummery of Istanbul, Turkey. Bill will also be dearly missed by his close friend Virginia Dixon and his niece Marlane Wilson, both of Brandon. Bill was born on September 7th, 1927 in Brandon, where he attended high school and Brandon College and where he met and married his wife, Helen. Together they moved to Kenora, Ontario in 1951 where they lived while Bill worked for the CPR prior to returning to Brandon in 1978. Bill retired from the CPR in 1985 after more than 40 years of service as a brakeman, fireman and locomotive engineer. Bill was an avid golfer and curler. As a long time member of the Masonic Temple and Shrine, he enjoyed his time in his retirement years with his many friends in the Brandon Shrine Club Pipe Band. The Graveside Service took place on Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Brandon Cemetery. Lydia Glawson officiated.
