Obituary for Agnes "Marie" Judd

Agnes "Marie" Judd
Peacefully, on Saturday, January 13, 2018, Agnes "Marie" Judd, passed away at her residence, Rideau Park Personal Care Home. Born near Sperling, Manitoba on January 29, 1927 to Harry and Viola (Snider) Colpitts, Marie grew up with her brother Gordon and sister Eileen in the farming community of Dufferin Municipality where she learned the skills needed to survive in those days - gardening, canning, baking, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, and knitting. She attended Boyne School (a one room school house) up to Grade 9 and completed her education in Carman, Manitoba (Grade 10). Marie married Colin Ashton of Homewood area on October 18, 1947. Together they worked as farm hands until they were able to buy a quarter section. Marie and Colin were blessed with four children - Ron, Barb, Ivan and Bev. In 1957, Colin was killed in a farming accident. As a result the family moved to Virden, Manitoba where Marie worked as a telephone operator for MTS. She married Albert Judd on September 29, 1962. When MTS went to dial-up the family moved to Brandon, Manitoba where Marie continued to work for MTS as well as helping Albert with running Sunset Motel and Sunset Trucking. Upon retirement, they were able to take several trips to southern USA in their motor home which they enjoyed immensely. Albert died July 22, 2002 and Marie moved to Colonial Estates. In 2014, she moved to Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, then Rideau Park Personal Care Home due to ill health. Marie is the last of her generation but leaves her children, grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends to mourn her loss. A private family interment took place at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. Rev. Chris Evetts of St. Mary's Anglican Church officiated. Donations in memory of Marie may be made to a charity of choice.
