Obituary for Shirley Gladwyn Burton

Shirley Gladwyn Burton
Shirley Burton, age 87, passed away on December 24, 2017. Shirley was born on December 17, 1930 to Joe and Dorothy Hodgins in Holmfield, Manitoba. She fondly remembered her childhood growing up in Bannerman, Lena and Killarney. Shirley married Ed Burton on July 21, 1951. Because Ed was in the military, they moved around a bit living in Brandon, Shilo, Rivers and a two year posting in Zoest, Germany. Their son David was born in 1953 and daughter Sharon in 1957. Family was the most important thing in life to Shirley. She loved nothing more than getting together for family gatherings. In the last few years, Shirley struggled with health problems but she met all the struggles with courage and determination considering all of her time at the hospital as social events where she met many good friends, especially Lois Aube, who she shared many good laughs with. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Ed; her parents, Joe and Dorothy; sister and brother-in-law Phyllis and Reg Massina; brother-in-law Gabe Warnez. She is survived by son David; daughter Sharon; sister Sandra Warnez and brother Winston (Marion) Hodgins. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for the care they gave mom over the last few years. A big thank you to Ted and Dallas Massina and Susan Gusthart for all the love and support. The Graveside Service to Celebrate Shirley's Life will be held in the Veterans' Section of the Brandon Cemetery on Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Phil Price will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to the Brandon Humane Society, 2200 17th Street East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 7M6.
