Obituary for Lawrence Gray

Lawrence Gray
GRAY: Lawrence passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit at the Assiniboine Centre in Brandon on the evening of December 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. Born May 17, 1931 in Neepawa, Lawrence grew up on the family farm near Arden. He married Margaret Sutherland in 1959 and they moved to The Pas briefly before settling in Brandon in 1962. In 1993, Lawrence retired as the Chief First Class Power Engineer from the Brandon General Hospital where he was recognized for his groundbreaking achievements in energy efficiencies. Prior to retirement Lawrence and Margaret purchased land south of Brandon to pursue their love of farming. Their farm quickly grew from a hobby farm with a couple of horses, a jersey cow and some poultry to 30 head of cattle and 20 Welsh Ponies. Not quite most people’s retirement plan but to them they were returning to their roots. His love for his family was the cornerstone of everything Lawrence did in his life. His family was his greatest source of pride and he loved when everyone was together. Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 58 years; children William (Betty-Ann, Charles, and Tasha), David (Michele, Amanda, Kinzie), Anne (Kevin, Dylan, and Matthew), and Neil (Tanya, Kendall, and Liam); twin brother Clarence (Mary), and sister in law Katherine (Clifford). He was predeceased by his parents, sister, and brother. A Memorial Service was held at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415 - 1st Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2W8.
