Obituary for Margaret Isabelle "Marg" McKinnon

Margaret Isabelle "Marg" McKinnon
Peacefully, on Monday, December 4, 2017, Margaret "Marg" Isabelle McKinnon (nee Coker), beloved wife of the late Garnet Duffield "Duffy" McKinnon, passed away at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home. Marg was born in Boissevain May 26, 1925 and moved at an early age to Brandon. She attended Brandon schools and upon completing her education went to work for the Manitoba Telephone System where she remained for 41 years; 20 years full time, 21 years part time. During her time with MTS Marg met her husband Duffy and they were married May 14, 1955. They spent most of their life in Brandon with the exception of nine years, 1966-1975, in Selkirk. In their younger years, they enjoyed bowling, curling, skating, square dancing and following the Wheat Kings. Summers were enjoyed at their cabin at Clear Lake and they usually took holidays in the spring or fall, east one year, west the next, to visit family. In May 1985, Marg and Duffy both retired from MTS, at which time they took up bus touring. They traveled across Canada several times including Newfoundland, and in every state, including Alaska and Hawaii twice. In 1995, they took their “Dream Trip to the British Isles.” A tour first of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales (22 days) then they stayed over to visit with Marg’s relatives and her pen pal with whom she had been corresponding since she was 16. Left to mourn Marg's passing are sisters-in-law Joan Coker and Corinne McKinnon, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Duffy, her parents, Daisy and Henry Coker, sister Jean Olsen, brothers Ken, Bern, and Mac Coker. The Celebration of Marg's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Saturday December 9, 2017. Rev. Jim Brown officiated. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
