Obituary for
Dorothy Ann Colquhoun (Bolton)
On Sunday, October 29, 2017, Dorothy Ann Colquhoun passed away at Rideau Park Personal Care Home. Dorothy was born December 14, 1939 on the family farm near Neepawa, MB, to William and Elizabeth Bolton. The family then moved to Brandon, MB in 1952.
Dorothy worked at Woolworths in downtown Brandon before meeting Clare Colquhoun through her sister Ruth and they married on August 22, 1959. Dorothy and Clare lived in Brandon, Selkirk, Grand Rapids, Winnipeg and Gillam while Clare worked for Manitoba Hydro. During these times, they had three boys: Cory, Darren and Kelvin. In 1974, they moved back to Brandon. Dorothy was a stay at home mom and over the years also babysat for a few families in the neighborhood. From 1989 to 1992, Dorothy, Clare and Cory operated a Yogen Fruz.
Dorothy loved painting, drawing, sewing, knitting and crocheting and almost any other craft that she came across. She was extremely talented and very artistic. Golfing, camping and swimming in the backyard pool were also enjoyed. Dorothy and Clare’s home was always a gathering place, whether it was family or friends, there was often someone stopping by. Especially on Friday night during the weekly poker game.
Dorothy was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1992. Over the years, MS took away her ability to walk and use most of her left side, but it couldn’t take away the smart, courageous, fun loving woman that we all knew and loved. Shortly before Dorothy passed away, she was attending concerts and playing bingo at Rideau Park Personal Care Home where she lived for the last year.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Cory (Karen) and Darren (Maurie); daughter-in-law Melanie; grandsons Bryce (Kelly), Jarod (Morgan), Tyler; sisters Irene Robson, Sherran (Ken) Hine, Shirley (Jim) Belous; brother-in-law Frank McKinnon; sisters-in-law Shirley (Bill) Stothard, Vel Bergwall (Al Machan), Darlene Colquhoun; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Elizabeth; her husband Clare; son Kelvin; sisters Lorraine Bolton and Ruth McKinnon and brothers-in-law Keith Bergwall, Keith Colquhoun and Bill Robson.
