Condolences

Condolence From: Al Dunham
Condolence: I knew Curtis from him and Glenn came over for a Wedgewood Thanksgiving dinner at Ardies. I always found this young man very respectful and he fit in with his Cousins, Aunties and Uncles perfectly. Taken far to young. My deepest condolences to all who knew and loved Curtis.

Condolence From: Shirley Matheson
Condolence: I was absolutely heartbroken and horrified by the circumstances under which surrounded my nephew’s passing. It seems so much a waste of life; he was such a very young man and good person. I believe we are all put on earth for a purpose but no one knows what or why until they go up to the spirit in the sky. However, I feel certain that as Curtis was knock, knock, knocking on heaven’s door Uncle Robert heard him, and when the door was opened, there he was waiting to welcome Curtis and ready to share a few cool water sandwiches and a hoot with him.

Curtis and I shared a respectful relationship. He was really easy to have a conversation with on the phone or in person and I did truly love him. We never spoke a cruel word to each other and for that I am grateful. Without complaint Curtis was always willing to help his Uncle Glenn with yard work here at my home in Brandon or at my cabin in Sandy Lake where he enjoyed a bonfire all night long with his Uncle Robert having a drink and chatting or casting out a fishing line.

Curtis’ Uncle Glenn Matheson was devastated. Glenn took over raising Curtis when he was a very young boy, around the tender age of 14 and raised him as his own son. Glenn became Surrogate Father to Curtis and Grandfather to his sweet children. He embraced them as his Family. Glenn was in his glory with his children and still is.

Curtis also had a stepfather, Wally Gero, whom he highly regarded. Curtis once told me that Wally was one of nicest men he had ever met.

My son Kelly was stunned and decimated by the passing of his cousin Curtis. He really cared for him and is really having a difficult time processing what happened. When things like this hit so close to home it is very frightening.

After knowing Curtis had passed away, Glenn went over to his niece’s home where Kate comforted him and was astounded and devastated by her Uncle Glenn’s emotional grief.

For our Thanksgiving gathering, my daughter Kate constructed a most beautiful candle holder for her Uncle Glenn commemorating “Family” with a beautiful picture of Curtis with his Uncle Glenn’s beloved dog Bear.

I extend my very sincere condolences to Very Special Surrogate Father Uncle Glenn, Step Father Wally, Cousins Kelly and Kate, and Curtis’ two sons.

Rest in peace my dear nephew Curtis; you were loved by many and to those: “In the midst of your sorrow, may you find peace and hope for all your tomorrows.”

With Love and Sincere Sympathy,
Auntie Shirley Matheson
