Obituary for Valerie Mae Rink

Valerie Mae Rink
Valerie Rink (nee Robson) of Brandon, Manitoba, cherished wife, mother and grandmother, died suddenly but peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017 at her home. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 47 years, John; her children Jim, Corry (Kevin) Bowen and beloved grandchildren Sydney and Jesse Bowen. She is also survived by her sister Sharon (Bob) Anderson of Melita, MB; brother Gordon (Mary) Robson of Hazen, North Dakota; in-laws Doug Snyder of Melita, Dieter (Diane) Rink of Calgary, AB, Werner (Joan) Rink of Brookdale, MB, Leanne Rink of Winnipeg, MB, Garry (Julie) Rink of Kelowna, BC, Harry Rink (Barb Powers) along with numerous nieces and nephews. Valerie was predeceased by her parents Violet and Earl Robson; parents-in-law Matilda and John Rink; sister Marilyn Snyder and brother-in-law George Rink. Valerie was born May 19, 1948 in Melita, MB. She was the youngest of four siblings. Completing all of her schooling in Melita, Valerie then attended Red River Community College in Winnipeg. After obtaining an Accounting degree, she settled in Brandon and began her career at Wilton Motors. It was at this time that she met and married John. Between her children being born, she made a career change to Simplot Soilbuilders, working there 27 years before she took an early retirement in 1999. Soon realizing that retirement wasn’t for her she got back into the work force where she held a brief position at a day care before finding her calling at The Home Depot, retiring for good in June 2015. In her early years, Valerie enjoyed broomball, golfing, sewing, cooking, playing cards and gardening. Most weekends, in the summer, were spent with family and friends at Sandy Lake. During the winter, weekends were spent at either the hockey or skating rink, with her children. In her later years, her grandchildren were her greatest joy. The Celebration of Valerie's Life took place on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at Memories Chapel, Brandon before the final journey to her resting place at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. The family would like to thank the Brandon Fire, Paramedic, and Police Services for their quick response and compassion. A special thank you to Greg at Memories Chapel for all his help in the planning of the service and Arlene for officiating. Donations in memory of Valerie may be made to Diabetes Canada, Unit A1-800 Rosser Avenue, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 6N5 or charity of your choice.
