Obituary for Elizabeth "Jean" Greves

Elizabeth "Jean"  Greves
GREVES: Elizabeth "Jean" (nee Donald) passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Jean was born August 30, 1923 in Morris, Manitoba to William and Mabel Donald. She met her future husband, Leslie Greves, while teaching at Tilston, Manitoba. They married October 18, 1946 and had three children, Cheryl, Doug and Gail. Jean thoroughly enjoyed her teaching career which began when she was just finishing her high school education. After boarding at the convent in St. Jean, she was sent off to teach without training. Later, she completed Normal School in Winnipeg, while living with her younger sister Cathy. After her marriage to Les, Jean became a devoted mother, raising their three children in Dunrea, Manitoba, always putting her family first. She spent many hours chauffeuring her kids to hockey, piano lessons, swimming lessons, field days, and school events. Sharing her love of learning and books, these words hold special meaning for her children- "Richer than I you can never be. I had a mother who read to me." She was active in the community, including 4H clubs and UCW, and enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens. Many leisure hours were spent in Killarney, leaving a legacy of lasting friendships. In 1977, Jean and Les retired to Brandon, where they enjoyed 37 years in their own home. With a flair for fashion, she spent several years working at the JoAnn Shop where her beautiful penmanship was always recognized. Her greatest joy throughout these years was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored. In 2014, Jean and Les moved to Riverheights Terrace. Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home became her residence in September of 2016. The family is very grateful for the Hillcrest staffs’ loving care of their mother. Jean will be lovingly remembered by her children Cheryl (Al) Ludington, Doug (Shirley) Greves, and Gail (Paul) Shewfelt; grandchildren Carrie (Blair), CJ (Paula), Heather (Matt), Leslie (Corey), Cole, Erin (Justin), and Kevin; great-grandchildren Sydney, Allana, Charlotte, Austin, Emma, Jack, Lily, Ruby, and Ari; her sisters Dorothy (Glen) and Shirley; sisters-in-law Lena, Mabel, Kathleen, and their families. She was predeceased by her husband Les in 2014, granddaughter Amy, brothers Bill and Frank and sister Cathy. Jean will be laid to rest in a private graveside service at a later date. For those so desiring, donations in memory of Jean may be made to a charity of choice.

If you can't be the sun, be a star;
It isn't by size that you win or you fail -
Be the best of whatever you are!"
