Obituary for Glenn Orland Dankesreiter

Glenn Orland Dankesreiter
After a brief fight with cancer, Glenn Orland Dankesreiter passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. Glenn was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on October 7, 1941 to Frank and Alma (Armstrong) Dankesreiter on his sister Marvelle's third birthday. He spent his first four years in Mackinac and Ochre River, moving to Sidney on his fourth birthday. His school years were spent in Sidney and Austin. Glenn then moved to Brandon where he worked for several companies. In 1962, Glenn married Marie Christison and in 1963 daughter Lori was born followed by son Troy in 1966. Later that year the family moved to Portage la Prairie where Glenn was employed by Campbell Soup. In 1978, they returned to Brandon where Glenn worked for Beatrice Foods. From a young age Glenn enjoyed curling, and when playing on natural ice he had to put both feet in the hack to get the rocks into the house. He curled until he developed arthritis in his knees, then switched to "armchair coaching" watching the sport on TV. As a boy he also played hockey and baseball. Glenn's favourite pastimes included camping trips, fishing, playing cards, gardening, reading, working on Sudoku and especially spending time at the cottage at Pelican Lake. He was also very interested in Model Railroading. Glenn is survived by his wife Marie, daughter Lori (John) Moore, granddaughter Alina Moore, son Troy, mother-in-law Edith Christison and several nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Marvelle and Maurice Hamilton, niece Laura Hamilton and father-in-law Hutton Christison. A graveside ceremony will take place at the Carberry Plains Cemetery on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the Carberry Drop In Centre, 132 Main St, Carberry, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Glenn may be made to a charity of choice.
