Obituary for Gordon John Wells

Gordon John Wells
WELLS: Gordon John, of Brandon, Manitoba. It is with shock and grief we regretfully announce his death on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Born December 10, 1948 in Minnedosa, Gordon grew up on the family farm and went to Elton Collegiate in Forrest. Gordie wasn't wild about school and left after the eleventh grade. He worked a summer on the railway but that wasn't for him - too dirty. He was directed by a neighbour to see Mrs. Crookshanks at the old Assiniboine Hospital and was hired on the spot. She thought as a good hardworking farm boy with family ethics he would do well. She was half right, a good quiet strong young man. But he never did any chores other than helping Dad oil machinery and for that he wore gloves. As well being the last baby he was spoiled; he got store bought milk and bread. Not only did they have milk cows, his mom was a good cook and made homemade bread and buns. One of Gordie's favorites was Cornish pastries, a pastry filled with beef, potatoes and onions served as a hot meal but also a great afternoon snack when driving a grain truck, naturally under age, but with a co-pilot, his blind Grandfather. I tried to duplicate the dish and Gordie said it was the best he'd had since Mom's. Gordon was a great co-worker, friend and husband. Wanting nothing for himself but to make life happy and easy for both his wife and stepdaughter as well as helping any friends, family and neighbours. Gordie's greatest pleasures were movies (James Bond), cars - both old and new and best of all his A&W coupons - bacon and eggs and hamburgers. The Wednesday flyers for deals especially meat - a well stocked and organized freezer. He enjoyed quiet times at home watching T.V. or at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. Gordon is survived by his wife Nancy-Jo; step-daughter Lindsay Wakefield (Jon Muckel); brother L.R. "Scotty" (Marcella) Wells; sister Alma Wallis; mother-in-law G. Joan Roberts; brothers-in-law Carl (Gail) Roberts, Jack (Brenda) Roberts; sisters-in-law Laurel Roberts, Lenora (Larry) Clifford and Leha-Deen (Rick) Randall, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents H. Gordon and Gladys (nee Rundel) Wells; sister Helen Tillotson; brothers-in-law Bud Mitchel and George Wallis and father-in-law Cecil E. Roberts. The Ceremony to Celebrate Gordon's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 with Rev. Dr. Glenn Ball, of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church officiating. A reception followed at Memories Chapel. Donations in memory of Gordon may be made to a charity of choice.
