Obituary for Doreen Alexandria Hurl

Doreen Alexandria Hurl
Doreen Hurl (Dooley). November 24 1919 - February 5 2017. The Hurl family would like to extend an invitation to join us as we hold a Celebration of Life for our beloved mother and grandmother, Doreen Hurl at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. A private family interment will take place at the Brandon Cemetery. Doreen was born to Richard and Sarah Dooley of Wawota, Saskatchewan where she lived until her marriage to Roy Hurl in 1939. Roy and Doreen lived briefly in Glenavon, Saskatchewan before moving to Brandon, where they continued to live and raise their family. Our mother had many fond memories of working as a young wife and mother at both Knowlton's and Richmonds shoe stores in Brandon. In 1966, she went to work as a 5th floor unit clerk at Brandon General Hospital. In 1977, she became the founding partner of Hurl's Foodmart where she continued to work until her retirement in 1986. Doreen was very active in various social organizations. She was Past President of Grand Lodge Ladies Auxiliary of United Transportation Union, past member of Al Anon Brandon, and attended the Central United Church. Our mother loved being social and active throughout her life. She enjoyed playing cards and continued to clog, bowl, golf and dance well into her 80s. Mostly she loved music and singing and some of our fondest memories will be of her singing to us when we visited with her. Doreen is survived by her children Don (Marion), Garth (Mary), Murray (Georgie), Pat (Karen), Greg and Pam, and her 14 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Roy W Hurl, daughter Faye Eyford, son-in-law Barry Eyford, granddaughter Kirsten Hurl, great grandson Mason, and all 5 of her siblings. The Hurl family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for the wonderful care our mother received there over the last few years. Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
