Obituary for Phyllis Irene Leslie

Phyllis Irene Leslie
After a very long but necessary delay, the family of Phyllis Irene Leslie (nee Lowe) wish to formally announce Mom’s peaceful passing, with Jackie by her side, at Souris Personal Care Home in the early morning of December 1, 2016 at the age of 91. Mom is survived by daughter Jackie Richards (Hugh), granddaughter Sandi Richards, grandson Jeff Richards (Silvia) and their family Brayden & Sadie. Her youngest sister Barbara Lowe of Macgregor, sisters-in-law Velma Lowe of Neepawa and Hazel Lowe of Macgregor also survive her as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Jack, her parents Tom & Beulah Lowe, her sisters Ella Jedel & husband Karl, and Shirley Ayers & husband Tom, and her brothers Roy Lowe & wife Jean, Ralph Lowe, and Tommy Lowe. She is also predeceased by Jack’s sister Barbara Campbell & husband Colin, Rita Ham & husband Murray and Jack’sbrother Dave Leslie & wife Vi, niece Linda Leslie, and nephew Glenn Campbell. Mom was born at her parents’ home farm north of Austin, MB and always spoke of having a happy life growing up there. Mom and Dad met in Winnipeg, were married July 17, 1946 and farmed at Melbourne. Jackie was born in 1950 and we moved to Rivers in 1951 for a short period. Dad was an elevator man at Croll, MB. until we moved back to Rivers in January, 1956. Mom was very active in the community. She was involved in the United Church, Legion, Curling Club, Golden Gals Curling, and Health Action Committee, to name of few. She felt a sense of duty to take her turn in the executive of as many as she could and was proud to do so. She loved to curl & golf and was a passionate fan of tennis, the Blue Bombers, the Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs and the Oilers. She was a very avid ‘sports nut’. But her biggest love, after her family, was her teaching career! She did love all her students and was so pleased to see and talk to any who happened by. Mom was able to take some wonderful trips in her retirement, the Maritimes, Vancouver, Victoria, the Northern States, Mexico and Scotland. She created many detailed scrapbooks upon her arrival home. Thank you to all the wonderful and caring staff and volunteers at the Souris PCH, as well as Dr. Ziada and Dr. Cram for their excellent care to Mom. Thanks also to all the staff, Dr. Nowosad and Dr. Dhaliwal and Dr. Vermaak at the Rivers Hospital and Rivers Medical Centre for the excellent care given through out the years. Much appreciation to all of the kind and generous people who made donations in memory of Mom to the Kidney Foundation, Rivers & Area Community Foundation, Riverdale Community Centre, and Diabetes Association. A very special mention ofthanks to Mom’s ‘second kids’ and their family, Doug, Deb, Joey, Taya, Valdine and Ingrid Johannson who Mom loved like her own and was so grateful for their kindness and care throughout the years. A funeral service will be held at the Rivers United Church on August 1, 2017 at 1:00 pm with a luncheon and social time at the Rivers Legion Hall. There will be a private interment August 2, 2017 at Austin Cemetery.
