Obituary for Greta Beatrice Gabler

Greta Beatrice Gabler
Greta Gabler
1930 - 2016

On a warm breezy summer day in Kelwood, Manitoba, Billie and May McNarland welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their family. Little Greta grew up with three brothers, Arnold, Arvene and Lorne. Growing up on a farm in those days meant hard work but in the McNarland home plenty of good times, hardly laughter, and warm love brought a family closeness that has endured to this day.

Love filled the air when a young, good looking neighbour boy came calling asking for a date. Preparations for the special day were going good until Greta went to get her wool skirt off the clothes line only to find that their billy goat had ate 3 inches off the bottom of her skirt! Despite the commotion, off the young pair went on a date that would change their lives forever.

On August 22, 1952 they walked down the aisle as Mr and Mrs Ed and Greta Gabler. A new and exciting life for both these farm kids! They moved to the big city of Winnipeg where they built a home and filled it with love raising twins, Todd and Tannis. Cold blustery nights would be filled with fun in this home! Oh, how they loved to entertain! On weekends friends and family would come over to enjoy a warm meal, singing around the piano Greta played, and a big card game that would last deep into the night. Lots of good memories! The family grew and each grandchild knew they were loved and adored by their grandparents. Natisha, Justin, Vince, Ivan, and Kyle shared many happy times and will cherish special memories. Gramma and grandpa will teach their great grandchildren, Gavin and Callie how to square dance when they wake up. Fun times ahead!

Not only was this family hospitable and kind, but a very strong spiritual focus made it a safe and peaceful home. In everything they did, their faith was always the central cord that held them together.

Now both Ed and Greta are sleeping in death awaiting a time when they will awaken and enjoy a wonderful new life on a paradise earth. With full confidence in Jehovah God's promise, they look forward to being together with their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends for an eternity. The Memorial Service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 3434 Park Avenue, Brandon, on Monday, November 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Kyle Weissig and Mr. Vincent Gabler will officiate. A private family interment will follow at a later date.
