Obituary for Eberhard "Harry" Peetz

Eberhard "Harry"  Peetz
Eberhard (Harry) Peetz passed away peacefully at the Assiniboine Centre on Monday, November 14, 2016 at the age of 73 years. Eberhard was born in Erfurt, Germany September 29, 1943. He attended school in Dueren, Germany and as with all young German men was drafted into the air force when he was 18. Upon leaving the military he took a job with the German Government and came to Canada in 1975 as a civilian with the German Army in Shilo, Manitoba. In October of 1978 he married MaryAnn Neufeld and they began their life together traveling to many exotic locations. Eberhard enjoyed a variety of careers including hotel owner at the Ninette Motor Hotel from 1980 to 1984 where they met many of their closest friends and Columbia Motel in Radium BC from 1991 – 1993, Real Estate with Martin Rungay Real Estate in Brandon, logistics at Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) in Brandon, and administration in Citizenship and Immigration in Calgary. Eberhard embraced everything about his life in Canada and was extremely proud when he got his Canadian citizenship in 2009. Eberhard and MaryAnn spent most summer weekends at the lake with their “lake family” and they spent several winters in Texas enjoying the warm weather and visiting with other snowbirds. He also looked forward to visits with their family in Alberta where he spent hours walking his grand-dogs Rusty, Amber, Augie, Max, Riley and Deuce. He especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and tending to his garden. Eberhard was also an avid soccer fan was very vocal in his support for Germany during the World Cup. Eberhard was predeceased by his father, Werner Peetz. He is survived by his wife, MaryAnn Peetz (nee Fast), his stepdaughter Tracey Wingrove (Jeff) and grandsons Brendan and Jay Wingrove of Keoma, AB, stepson Terry Neufeld (Wanda) of Fort Saskatchewan, AB. He is also survived by his mother Hilda Peetz, brother Wolfgang (Marita) Peetz, sister Regina (Udo) Huelshorst, and nephews Jens and Sven all of Germany. A Celebration of Eberhard’s Life was held at Memories Chapel on Saturday, November 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Eberhard may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation for Palliative Care, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3.
