Obituary for Jennie Elsie Nykoliation

Jennie Elsie Nykoliation
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jennie Elsie Nykoliation (nee Zdebiak) at the Valleyview Care Centre on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the age of 92 years. Left to mourn and cherish her memory are her daughter Debbie Smiley and son-in-law Doug Smiley. She will also be sadly missed by her brother Tony Zdebiak and sister-in-law Marion as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, parents Nick and Jennie Zdebiak, brothers Mike (Carrie), Sandy (Rose), Peter (Margaret), Stanley and sisters Anne Chwaluk (John), Rose Nykoliation (Bill), Kay Kyrylik (Peter), Mary, and Caroline. She was also predeceased by her fond nephew Walter Zdebiak and his wife Annette, as well as numerous in-laws. Jennie was born in Wisla, Manitoba and lived on a farm in the Strathclair District. She married Joe Nykoliation in 1946 and they settled in the McConnell area where they farmed for 33 years. In 1980, they retired in Shoal Lake and lived there for 26 years. In 2006, due to health issues, Jennie and Joe relocated to Brandon, moving to Valleyview Care Centre in 2011. Jennie will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness and her cheerful and pleasant personality. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and sewing, and took great pride in her flowers. She loved to bake and always had plenty of goodies in the freezer. Mom enjoyed holiday gatherings, playing cards with family and friends, spending time at the cabin, and travelling to Las Vegas. She always loved cats and while in Valleyview she was fortunate to have two cats that gave her great comfort and companionship. The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at the Valleyview Care Centre. Their kindness, care and compassion is greatly appreciated and it was clearly evident that they had a special fondness for mom. Thanks also to Dr. Caplan of the Brandon RHA for her care as well. The Funeral Service took place at Memories Chapel on Friday, November 18, 2016. Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk officiated. Jennie was laid to rest with her husband Joe in a private ceremony at the Shoal Lake Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jennie may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, Unit 4B, 457-9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 1K2.
