Obituary for Guy Morgan Isleifson

ISLEIFSON: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Guy Morgan Isleifson at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on December 21, 2014, with his loving wife by his side. Guy was 53 years young and embraced life even after being diagnosed with advanced lung cancer in 2012. Born in Glenboro on June 22, 1961, the family moved the following year to Brandon. In 1986, he started working for Zenith Paving where he worked for 28 years and even came back in a reduced capacity last summer. He took great pride in his work and was described as an exceptionally dedicated employee whose terrific attitude affected everyone around him. In 1989, Guy met the love of his life, Shelly (Wahoski). They married in 1991 and together raised three wonderful boys. Guy loved the great outdoors and would have preferred to live in a log cabin in the middle of the woods. He couldn't wait each year for deer hunting season to begin; he even got the chance to hunt an elk. He provided food for his family and enjoyed the company of his hunting partners. The last couple of years he got to spend a lot of time fishing with his kids and his dad which meant a lot to him; he didn't even mind ice fishing. Guy couldn't wait for summer to begin so he could take his family and his kids' friends camping. He enjoyed cooking on an open fire and spending long nights around the campfire telling stories and jokes. To some Guy was known as "The Professor"; if you wanted to know something just ask Guy. He was very knowledgeable and was never shy about starting a "debate." He was a big jokester and always had a smart remark for something you said. His other passion was to dance the two-step. You could be sure that he'd be the first one on the dance floor with his polished cowboy boots gliding his wife across the dance floor, which many people enjoyed watching. Guy's most rewarding role was being a dad and often spent many hours talking to his kids and their friends about anything and everything. The house was always full of kids. He was such a supportive father and taught them to believe in themselves and that they could accomplish anything they set their minds to. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Shelly; his sons Morgan (Laurissa), Brayden and Dustin (Cherokee). Guy also leaves to grieve his parents, Bob and Doreen Isleifson; brothers Wayne (Debbie) Isleifson, Len (Chris) Isleifson; in-laws, Donald and Gertie Wahoski, and Shelly's siblings Val Calen, Maxine Nagorski, Rob Wahoski, Doreen Burton along with many nieces and nephews. He will also be greatly missed by Lorraine Labossiere who was an inspiration to him; Bill Houghton his good friend and foreman for many years who called him faithfully once a week for 2 1/2 years just to say "Hi, how are you doing?" He will be greatly missed by many others too many to mention. A celebration of Guy's life was held at Central United Church on December 30, 2014 with Joe Ball officiating. Urn bearers were Lorraine Labossiere, Bill Houghton and Robert Wahoski. Honorary Bearers were Shane Nagorski, Devin Nagorski, Myles Nagorski, Andy Isleifson, Cody Isleifson and Joey Wahoski. Donations in memory of Guys may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, Cancer Services, 150 McTavish Avenue, East, Brandon Manitoba R7A 2B3.
