ZAPUCHLAK: The death of Rose Zapuchlak, beloved wife of the late Bill Zapuchlak, occurred at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home on Saturday, November 30, 2013. Rose was born September 19, 1925 in Rossburn, Manitoba. She grew up on the farm in Oakburn, Manitoba. Rose worked for a farmer in Solsgirth, Manitoba where she met Bill and were married in 1949. Rose and Bill started farming on their own in Birtle, Manitoba. In 1957, they moved to Brandon, Manitoba where she started to work for Perth’s drycleaner. Later she got a job at the Brandon General Hospital in the housekeeping department. Due to illness, she retired and became involved with the UCWL for many years. Rose had many hobbies, such as crocheting table cloths and doilies for the whole family. She also loved to cross-stitch pictures and frame them for the family. Rose was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2006, her father Stephen Pohynayko in 1963, her mother Martha Pohynayko in 1974, brother Peter Pohynayko in 1975, brother-in-law Daniel Melnyk in 1984, sister-in-law Phylis Pohynayko in 2000. Rose is survived by her sister Anne Melnyk of Brandon, brother Mike Pohynayko (Lorraine) of Prince George, BC and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Prayers will be said at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Friday, December 6, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 927 Assiniboine Avenue on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Michael Tkachuk. Cantor Stella Fedeniuk, organist Elsie Makwaychuk, cross bearer Darrell Bailey, urn bearer Chrissy Barron. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Rose may be made to Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada, Box 21047, Brandon, Manitoba, R7B 3W8.
